Your Tile uses Bluetooth to make a connection with your device. Once the connection is established, it relies on the GPS Location Services of your device to update the location information in your app. The Tile itself does not use GPS.
Therefore, your Tile needs to be within the standard Bluetooth range (up to 100ft.) of a device that has location services in order to communicate its location to the app. That means Tile cannot track objects as they move in real-time, unless there is a device within range moving with it. (i.e. your car keys and phone traveling together.)
Despite that, however, it can be used to keep track of moving objects.
The Tile community is your resource for finding things that just won’t sit still!
Whenever a person who is running the Tile app on their phone passes within range of your Tile, their device will automatically and anonymously update your app with your Tile’s most recent location. It typically only takes a few seconds for a nearby Tile to be discovered.
With 8 million Tiles shipped as of 2017 and counting, Tile is an easy way to find what really matters. And, as our community grows, this feature of Tile is made even more effective!
