Tile has integrated with Google, so you can utilize voice-based finding in the home. Google Nest speakers bring you the best of Google to help locate and ring your Tiles via Bluetooth - so you don’t need your phone or Tile app nearby in order for your Tiles to ring.

How Google Assistant works with Tile

Google Assistant can assist you in finding your things by using Tile technology. You can ask Google to ring your Tile or check your Tile’s last known location.

Link Tile account with Google Assistant

1. Make sure you download the Tile app (iOS | Android) and the Google Home app (iOS | Android) and sign in to both apps.
2. Add your Tiles to your Tile app account if you haven’t done so yet.
3. On the home screen of the Tile app, tap Settings at the top right corner.
4. Scroll down to Smart Home, then select Smart Home Hub.
5. Below Google Assistant, select Link Account to open the Google Home app.
6. Tap the + sign at the top left left corner of the screen.
7. Select Set up device.
8. Select Works with Google.
9. Select the magnifying glass at the top right corner of the screen and search for Tile.
10. Scroll down and select Log In. Do not select Log in with Facebook.
11. Enter the email address and password associated with your Tile account.
12. Set up Voice Match and make sure it's turned on so Google Assistant can recognize your voice and know it’s you asking for your Tiles.

Use Tile with Google Assistant

You can ring your Tile by saying:

• “Ok Google, ring my (laptop, keys).”
• “Ok Google, make my (backpack, water bottle, wallet) ring.”

You can ask for the location of your Tile by saying:

• “Ok Google, where is my (purse, camera, tablet)?”
• “Ok Google, find my (gym bag, passport, bike).”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I ring or find my phone via Tile using Google Assistant?

No, Google Assistant is only able to help you ring and locate your Tiles. In order to locate your phone, you can double-press on Tiles that are enabled with the reverse ring functionality or use the Tile app on a different device.

If I don’t have a Google Nest speaker, can I still ring or locate my Tiles using Google Assistant?

Yes, both smartphones and third-party devices with Google Assistant built-in (for example, certain Sonos speakers) are able to ring and locate your Tile. However, you do need a mobile device that has the Tile app installed running nearby so that the Tile app can tell your device to ring your nearby Tile.

What if my Google Nest speaker can't connect and ring my Tile?

Make sure your Google Nest speaker is connected and working by trying another simple action such as checking the weather. Once you’ve determined that Google Assistant is working, and the Tile integration is not, contact us and we will help resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

How does Google Assistant know the location of my Tile?

If the Tile is at home, you can use Google Assistant to determine the last location your Tile was seen (this is why you may hear a response like, “Your keys were last seen at 9 pm near Home”). Sometimes, Google Assistant may not be able to locate your Tile, for example, when your Tiles are not at Home. In this case, Google Assistant will tell you the street address of where your Tile was last seen based on Tile’s location services.

If a family member and I both have our own Tiles with the same name (i.e. Keys), how do I make sure my Google Nest speaker finds the right Tile?

Before ringing or locating your Tile, Google Assistant will make sure the query is coming from you (via Voice Match). So if you and a family member each have a Tile with the same name, Google Assistant will identify who is asking for the Tile and ring the appropriate device.

Are there differences between iPhone and Android users?

iPhone (iOS) users: 

They will receive a response like “Your wallet was last seen at 4 pm near Home” more consistently. The Android app will soon be updated to match the iPhone experience.

Android users:

Tile app keeps a constant Bluetooth connection to your Tiles. For this reason, Google Assistant may not be able to locate your Tiles directly, and will have to rely on your phone to determine the location of the Tiles. This is why Google Assistant may respond to a location question with, “Your keys were last seen at [your home address]”.
