How Tile makes Smart Alerts possible
Tile uses geofencing to make Smart Alerts possible. Geofencing is a virtual boundary (or fence) created by using your device’s location. When your device enters a location, it cues the Tile app on your device to create a geofence around the device of 100 meters (around 300 feet) after 5-10 minutes. The app also records which Tiles entered the geofence with your device. When your device leaves the location, your device scans to see if it is leaving with all the Tiles that initially accompanied it. The app then notifies you if you left without a Tiled item.
When to expect a Smart Alerts notification
If you leave a Tiled item behind, the Tile app will notify you anywhere between 5-10 minutes after your device leaves and breaks its geofence. Note that you will only receive an alert when it is your device that leaves the geofence. If your Tiled item leaves the geofence and your device stays put, you will not receive an alert. This is because your device only re-scans for your Tiles after it leaves the geofence it created.
