Your safety is very important to us. Please use caution when using the Scan and Secure feature. If you choose to drive during the scan, please avoid looking at your phone while driving. Once started, the scan will continue and your phone will not go 'to sleep'. Once the scan is complete, please park your car in a safe place before reviewing the results. If you choose to walk or use a bike (or any similar transportation mode such as a scooter) while running the scan, please remain aware of your surroundings and be careful around traffic.

After running the Scan and Secure feature

1. If you are logged in to your Tile account, the scan results show your known Tiles and Tile-enabled devices. Your known Tiles or Tile-enabled devices are those that belong to you or were shared with you. Tile-enabled devices are products with Tile’s finding technology embedded, such as Fitbit Inspire 2 and some Skullcandy products.
2. The scan results also show unknown Tiles. Read the results carefully to distinguish between unknown Tiles and Tile-enabled devices that you may have passed by while running the scan vs. those that may be traveling with you. For example, if a Tile only appeared in 2/6 scans, it could be an idle Tile that you passed while you were running the scan. Tiles that appear in several scans may be traveling with you.
3. If you think there may be unknown Tiles or Tile-enabled devices traveling with you, consider taking the next steps listed below.

Next steps

As you consider the steps below, prioritize your safety and be aware there may be a need to document events for evidence.  If needed, Tile can work with law enforcement through a properly issued court order to identify the owner of a suspicious Tile.  For assistance, contact the resources in your area.

1. For data security, the scan results are not stored anywhere including the Tile app. Consider saving the scan results. Depending on the circumstances, you may need the scan results saved so that they can be presented in the future if any further action is needed with law enforcement.
2. Physically search for the unknown Tiles or Tile-enabled devices that you think may be traveling with you. The pictures in the scan results can help you identify the devices. In the scan results example below, you will be looking for a Tile Mate and a Tile Pro.
   
3. Consider the following places where you can start searching for the devices:
   • Apparel, including hidden pockets
   • Purses or backpacks, including hidden compartments
   • Luggage, including pockets
   • Toys
   • Cosmetic bags, including hidden compartments
   • School supplies
   • Vehicle compartments, including back of license plate and undercarriage
4. If you find the unknown Tile or Tile-enabled device, consider contacting local law enforcement so they can give advice on next steps based on the facts, and make a police report if necessary.
   If you decide it is safe to move the device, you may need to document (with a photo or video) where you found the device, for future purposes.
5. To stop the Tile or Tile-enabled devices from providing location updates to their owner, you can do the following. Note after the device stops providing location updates, the owner will not get a notification that their device is no longer providing location updates. However, if they check their Tile’s location history, they will see the last known location of the device along with the date and time.
   • Wrap the device in several layers of foil to block the Bluetooth signals emitted by the device.
   • Put the device in a signal blocking bag such as a Faraday bag (pictured below).
     
   • If the device has a removable battery, you can remove it.
6. If you decide to dispose of the Tile, be aware that you will no longer be able to submit it as evidence. Keep in mind that, depending on the circumstance, you may need to present certain evidence in the future in connection with further law enforcement action.

Additional steps to keep safe

As you consider the additional steps listed below, prioritize your safety and be aware there may be a need to document events for evidence. For assistance, contact the resources in your area.

Switch off location permissions on your mobile device(s) to stop other apps from sharing your location. To switch off location permissions, follow the steps below.

iOS devices

1. Go to your device Settings.
2. Scroll down and select Privacy.
3. Select Location Services.
4. Switch Location Services to Off.
5. When prompted, select Turn Off.

Android devices

1. Go to your device Settings.
2. Select Location, Location Services, or Location Access (varies by device).
3. Switch the setting to Off.

If you have a Tile account with activated Tiles or Tile-enabled devices, consider doing the following:

• If you have shared your Tiles with other people, determine if unsharing the Tile will put your safety at risk. As soon as you unshare your Tile, the Tile disappears from the Tile app of the person you originally shared with. Consider contacting the resources in your area if you need assistance.
• If you have Alexa linked to your Tile account, and you share your Alexa Echo account with other people, unlinking Alexa from your Tile account removes their access to your Tile account. Follow the steps below.
  1. In the Alexa app, select More (three lines) at the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Select Skills & Games.
  3. Select Your Skills at the top right of the screen.
  4. Select the Tile app, then Settings.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom and select Disable Skill.
• If you have Google Home linked to your Tile account, and you share your Google Home account with other people, unlinking Google Home from your Tile account removes their access to your Tile account. Follow the steps below.
  1. In the Google Home app, select Settings.
  2. Select Works with Google.
  3. Select the Tile app, then select Unlink account.
