If your Tile is within Bluetooth range of your mobile device, you can ring your mobile device by quickly and firmly double-pressing the button on the Tile itself.
Tile Is Making a Slow Chirp
After double-pressing the Tile button, this tune plays when the Tile app is attempting to connect to your phone. The tune will play even if the Tile app is not running on the phone and the Tile is trying to connect.
Mobile Device Does Not Ring
If your mobile device does not ring, here are the steps you can take:
- Ring your Tile from your mobile device.
- In the Tile app, select the Tile that you wish to ring.
- Tap on Find to ring your Tile.
- If your Tile did not ring, it may be that the Tile’s battery needs to be replaced. For Tiles with a user-replaceable battery, learn how to replace the battery.
- If the Find button for the Tile is not showing, ensure that your Tile is connecting.
- Once you’ve made sure your Tile is connecting, check the following in your device’s settings:
- Verify your mobile device’s operating system (OS) is on a supported version. (iOS or Android)
- In the Tile app, check if Find Your Phone is set to On.
- On the home screen of the Tile app, select the Tile that you wish to check.
- Scroll down and select Find Your Phone.
- Verify if it is set to On.
-
iOS Devices
- Background App Refresh is set to On.
- Location Services are set to Always and Precise Location is set to On.
-
Notifications:
- Tap on Settings.
- Scroll down and Tap on the Tile app.
- Tap on Notifications and set to Allow.
- Add a checkmark on the Lock Screen, Notifications Center, and Banners.
- Set the Banner style to Persistent.
-
Android Devices:
- If you use any operating system feature that force stops/closes the Tile app, it will no longer function in the background. (e.g. Samsung’s Clear Memory Feature).
- Check Notifications and Location Services permission settings have been granted to the Tile app.
- If you can’t find the settings for Location Services and Notifications, use the Search box in the Settings home screen.
- For settings at App Level, make sure there is no setting that is blocking Location Services, Notifications, and Sounds.
Note: App settings may vary by your device’s manufacturer and Android version. If you need help finding the above settings, refer to the device manufacturer’s support site.
Additional Settings to Verify
- Your mobile device may have battery saving mode (low battery mode, battery optimization, battery saver, etc.) enabled.
- If it is enabled, either disable this mode or add the Tile app as an exception.
- Disable any Do Not Disturb modes on your mobile device to ensure that notifications are not blocked.
- The Tile app will not be able to make your phone ring if this mode is enabled. A notification will still appear on the phone's lock screen that Tile is ringing your phone, but there will be no sound with the alert.
- For older iOS devices
-
- Go to Settings.
- Tap on Battery.
- Select Battery Health.
- Check Maximum Capacity is above 80% and confirm there is no Important Battery Message about your device’s battery health.
If you are still unable to ring your mobile device:
- Force close all apps from your recent apps page.
- Restart your mobile device.
- If your Tile is a 2018 model or older, reboot your Tile by pressing and holding down the Tile button on the Tile for 10 seconds. (newer model Tiles do not require a reboot).
- Relaunch the Tile app.
- Allow 1-2 minutes for your Tile to connect.
- Once you have a Find button, exit the app (do not force close the app or remove it from the recent apps page).
- Verify if the issue is resolved.
Using Find Your Phone on the Tile app or Life360 app
Find Your Phone with Tile will work with the Tile or the Life360 app if you have linked your Tiles to your Circle.
If you are running both the Life360 app and Tile app, it will trigger via the one that makes the connection first. You may need to disable Bluetooth on any other phones you are logged into using the same account.
“Pause App Activity if Unused” (For Android)
The “Pause App Activity if Unused” defaults to toggled On. If you don’t use the Tile app for 90 days, it will go into hibernation, and all its features and functions will not work.
To disable:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap on Apps.
- Scroll down and tap on the Tile app.
- Tap on Permissions.
- Toggle “Pause app activity if unused” to Off.
Note: Battery set to unrestricted does not have any effect.
Ringing a Lost Phone
You can use Find My Phone on a different device to ring your lost mobile phone.
The Tile app must be installed on both devices.
Also, the device you want to locate must be logged in using the same Tile Account or shared with you. If the device you want to locate is within range, it will connect within 2 minutes.
